The Dallas Cowboys are set to kick off the 2025 NFL regular season on Thursday, September 4. While that date is still ahead, the team is already deep into preparations for what they hope will be a big year.
Leading the way once again is quarterback Dak Prescott. A veteran presence for the historic franchise, Prescott enters his 10th season in the league after being drafted in 2016 out of Mississippi State. He played in eight games last season, with the Cowboys going 3-5 during that stretch.
Speaking with the media on Friday, Prescott was asked about what it feels like to be entering his 10th year in the NFL.
“What does being a 10-year NFL vet sound like to you?”
Prescott started his response by expressing his gratitude.
"It’s a blessing."

He then elaborated with more perspective.
"Doesn’t seem real at times. But I feel great. I’m healthy. I feel young. You know, part of shaving the beard off is just trying to let you guys see how I feel," said Prescott. "It’s something I don’t take for granted one bit, whether it’s the time in the dining hall, in the locker room, or obviously out there on the practice field."
Prescott also spoke about how life off the field has changed and how it shapes his view of the game.
"Knowing this stage of life, getting to spend it with my daughters and my fiancée out there on the field. That’s what says ‘10 years’ more than anything," Prescott said. "I remember being a young guy watching the vets play with their kids afterward. Now, that’s me. I’m super thankful. I don’t take a moment of it lightly. I’m just grateful to be where I am."
As he enters a new chapter, Prescott made it clear he’s focused on staying grounded.
"I tell people I’m just going to continue to be where my feet are," Prescott mentioned. "If that’s here, it’s here. If it’s at home playing with them, or if it’s in the locker room being the best teammate I can be, because this isn’t promised. Not a game, not a practice rep is guaranteed. So I’m just taking advantage of every single thing I’m allowed to."
Prescott has led the Cowboys to the playoffs in five of his nine seasons. He has played in seven postseason games, winning two. Last season, he threw for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight regular-season appearances.
The 2025 season begins with a challenge. Dallas opens on the road against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. In week two, they return home to host the New York Giants.
