The Dallas Cowboys' offense in 2024 was CeeDee Lamb or bust, and when 88's shoulder went bust, it was over.
Given how much of a dynamic play-maker Lamb is, defenses didn't rate any of Dallas' other weapons, so they shifted coverages to CeeDee to take him away, and no one else stepped up.
That is why finding a solid No. 2 receiver is crucial for the Cowboys this offseason is crucial, and with Stephen Jones' "selectively aggressive" words ringing in our ears, it isn't going to be someone like a DK Metcalf or Tee Higgins, but more so a tier-two free agent.
Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team listed five underrated free agents, and it is here where we find what could be an absolute steal for Dallas ... if they want to, in Marquise Brown.
"One of the positions that has a crazy amount of depth in free agency is wide receiver," Mosher writes. "Injuries will likely hurt Brown’s value in free agency, but he is just 27 and is one of the few receivers in the class with speed. The Chiefs will likely try to retain him, but he could be one of the biggest values in free agency, assuming he can stay healthy and get with the right offense."
Adds Mike Fisher of CowboysCountry.com: Let's mark down his price tag at about $8 million APY. He's battled injuries and last year in Kansas City played just one regular-season game. But he did play in the Super Bowl for the Chiefs, he's got pedigree at a former first-round pick, he's young 27 and he used to play with CeeDee Lamb at Oklahoma.
"There is some "fit'' there."
That's 2 insiders linking "Hollywood'' to Dallas.
Speed isn't one trait the Dallas offense has in abundance, but Brown does.
Yes, the shoulder injury cost him most of the 2024 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, but upon his return, Brown posted receiving yards totals of 45 and 46 yards in the regular season, and a 35-yard effort in the AFC Championship game.
The Cowboys are in need of getting Lamb help, plus adding speed at an affordable price, and isn't out of juice. Brown fits into all those categories. He signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Chiefs last season. Would something similar suffice in Dallas?
You bet it would. But as is the case with the Cowboys and free agents who make a ton of sense, will a phone call be made?
We think it needs to.
