Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys entered the 30-year mark for their Super Bowl drought after missing the playoffs entirely for the 2025 season. Jones, who serves as the team president, owner and general manager, has high expectations for second-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer and his Cowboys.
With a star-studded offense led by quarterback Dak Prescott alongside wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, Dallas ranked No. 2 in total offense (391.9 yards per game) and second in passing offense (266.3 yards per game) in 2025. Prescott finished third in the league in passing yards (4,552) and fourth in touchdown passes (30), while Pickens finished third in receiving yards (1,429) and eighth in receptions (93) and touchdowns (nine).
Running back Javonte Williams flourished in his first year in Dallas, as the former Denver Broncos tailback finished with 1,201 rushing yards on 4.8 yards per carry to go along with 11 rushing touchdowns. Despite the offensive surge, Dallas ended the season with a 7-9-1 record, offset by its league-worst scoring defense (30.1 points allowed per game, 32nd in the NFL). With the Cowboys returning essentially all of their main production from last season, it appears the front office is now focused on acquiring a defensive star.
On Sunday, Dallas announced that it had agreed to terms with former Denver Broncos star pass rusher Von Miller. Agreeing to terms is essentially the equivalent of a handshake deal, with tentative terms usually agreed upon through the team and a player’s agent or representative.
On Tuesday, Dallas brought the vision to reality, announcing on social media the exciting news of Miller officially signing with the team. From signing cornerback Deion Sanders in the 1990s to bringing in star wide receiver Terrell Owens in the mid-2000s, Jones has never been one to shy away from star power, with Miller being no different.
The former No. 2 overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft started his career by winning the 2011 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and never looked back. With seven All-Pro selections, two Super Bowl championships that include an MVP of Super Bowl 50, and being immortalized on the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, the 37-year-old has nothing left to prove in the league, yet still has more to offer.
The DeSoto High School graduate played with the division-rival Washington Redskins in 2025, amassing nine sacks and 26 total tackles in 17 games played. The Texas native is currently tied with Dallas Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware for ninth all-time in career sacks (138.5), with former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs next on the all-time list (139).
