  • Dallas Cowboys lost 30-27 to Panthers; Prescott’s strong performance wasn’t enough.
  • Prescott surpassed Troy Aikman’s franchise passing yards record and neared Tony Romo’s TD record.
  • “It’s a long season… I have all the confidence that we will,” said Prescott.

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys suffered another tough loss on Sunday, this time falling to the Carolina Panthers, 30-27, in a Week 6 road matchup at Bank of America Stadium. Carolina kicker Ryan Fitzgerald scored a 33-yard field goal as time expired to lead the Panthers to a hard-fought victory, which saw them improve to 3-3 on the season.

Prescott turned in another strong performance in this one, registering 25-of-34 completed passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback increased his passing touchdown tally to 13 across six games, passing his mark of 11 TDs in 2024 when he was limited to just eight games due to a season-ending hamstring injury.

Not even Prescott’s outstanding effort was enough to lead the Cowboys to victory against the Panthers. This loss saw Dallas fall to 2-3-1 this season for third in the NFC East behind the defending champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Washington Commanders.

Prescott spoke to the press after Sunday’s disappointing defeat. The 32-year-old remains confident in his team’s abilities despite their slow start to the campaign.

“It’s a long season,” Prescott said, via Cowboys beat reporter Jon Machota of The Athletic. “I’ve been 3-5 before, and we made the playoffs. We’ve just got to find a way to win these close games. And I have all the confidence that we will.

“We got a lot of great players. We've got guys getting healthy and coming back. That’s only going to make this team better and more explosive. We’ve got to keep our heads down and keep working.”

Prescott was able to rewrite the Cowboys' history books in Sunday’s loss. The NFL announced during the game that Prescott was able to surpass Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman for the most all-time passing yards in franchise history. Aikman threw 32,942 yards in his 12 years in Dallas, and Prescott now has 33,054 passing yards to his name after Sunday’s game.

That wasn’t the only feat Prescott achieved against the Panthers, though. The Cowboys also took to social media to reveal that the former Mississippi State Bulldogs star has closed in on a franchise touchdown record that is currently owned by Cowboys legend Tony Romo.

“Dak Prescott has three touchdown passes today, giving him 39 career regular season games with at least three passing touchdowns, second in franchise history behind Tony Romo (40 games).

“Prescott’s 39 three-touchdown games are the sixth-most by a NFL player in his first 10 seasons,” Dallas Cowboys Public Relations posted on X.

Prescott is now just one game away from matching Romo’s long-standing record for the most three-TD games by a Cowboys quarterback. On top of that, he is also just two games behind New York Giants QB Russell Wilson (41) for the No. 6 spot in NFL history for most three-touchdown games by a quarterback.

All this just speaks volumes about how Prescott has already cemented his legacy as one of the best quarterbacks in both Cowboys and NFL history. The 10-year veteran has a lot left in the tank, too, so it should only be a matter of time before he breaks even more all-time records.

Prescott’s next chance to do so will be next Sunday, Oct. 19, when they return home to AT&T Stadium for a matchup against the Washington Commanders. That’s going to be a divisional showdown as well, which means that the Cowboys should have some extra motivation to get a win against NFC East foes.
