Trevon Diggs was not available for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday as they suffered a deflating 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos. The All-Pro cornerback missed Dallas’ dominant 44-22 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 7 and was forced to sit out his second straight game on Sunday due to a concussion.

The Cowboys placed Diggs on injured reserve on Saturday because of his head injury, meaning he will miss at least 4 games, including the Broncos loss. At this point, Dallas has no choice but to make the necessary adjustments with one of their best defensive players out of commission for an extended period.

Diggs’ absence was felt on Sunday against the Broncos. Denver quarterback Bo Nix had a field day, registering 19-of-29 completed passes for 247 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Without Diggs disrupting the Broncos’ passing game, the Cowboys allowed a total of 247 passing yards.

Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones faced reporters after the embarrassing loss, and the 83-year-old was asked about Diggs's status moving forward. Jones did not have a definitive update on their star CB. The Cowboys GM refused to put a timetable on Diggs’ return, saying, “He's just generally got to get in better shape to play."

However, when asked if he believes Diggs will be back on the field this season, Jones was more assured in his response.

"Why not? Yes. Why not?" Jones responded. "But there's a little beyond my expectations. We've got to see how he heals from his injury. He has been there physically there in full shape for us."

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer also commented on Diggs’ status after the loss. The first-year head coach stated that it was in the best interest of both the team and Diggs to place him on IR. “He’s gonna work his [expletive] off to get back,” Schottenheimer declared, via Cowboys reporter Jon Machota of The Athletic.

While both Jones and Schottenheimer seem adamant that Diggs will return at some point in the season, Dallas will need to navigate the next few weeks without the former Alabama Crimson Tide star.

This includes next week’s matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cowboys are back home for Week 9 in a “Monday Night Football” primetime matchup. Kickoff from AT&T Stadium is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. ET on Nov. 3.
