Dallas Cowboys OTAs 2026: What to watch starting today
Chris Jones-Imagn Images

Welcome to the month of June, which means welcome to the first offseason program for the Dallas Cowboys, OTAs.

The Dallas Cowboys organized team activities that started today and will continue on June 2, June 4, June 8, June 9 and finish on June 11th.

After that, mandatory minicamp will start on June 16th and run through June 20th. I have not seen the training camp dates yet, but we should finally be able to see fun important content on Twitter and Facebook of the Cowboys players.

With that said, I have covered some of this last week, but starting today there are a few things that I will be keeping my eye on, and I think you should as well!

Plenty of other things to watch, but these are the few that are at the top of my board.

Battle Of RB2

I think I have a pretty good idea who is going to earn this role, but it should be very competitive, at least for the first couple of weeks during the summer starting this week.

As it sits, Malik Davis would be my pick over Jaydon Blue to earn the backup spot behind Javonte Williams.

Davis only touched the ball 52 times last season, but he accumulated 250 rushing yards and two scores, equating to 4.8 yards per carry.

That included a long touchdown run in the Cowboys’ thrilling Thanksgiving Day victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, and a 103-yard effort in his only start in Week 17.

He has shown that he can do what he needs to do, and I think if he goes into the season as the true RB2 he will run with a lot of confidence and beat out Blue this summer to earn that spot.

Michael Trigg Is The Real Deal

This has been my favorite thing this offseason and that is I think the Cowboys might have gotten one of the top 10 best UDFAs in Michael Trigg.

I will say it right on Monday, June 1st. Luke Schoonmaker is going to be cut at the end of the summer and Trigg is going to make the roster.

The Baylor product is a raw talent just like Tyler Guyton on the Cowboys offensive line, but he put on a show during his final college season with 50 receptions for 694 yards and six touchdowns.

He has issues with blocking, but Brev Spann-Ford is such a good blocker that I don’t mind it. Jake Ferguson bounced back a year ago, and I think Brev and Trigg bring more to the table than Schoonmaker does, and he has his chance the last two years and is on his way out.

Keep a close eye on this early and often.

Tyler Guyton

I could go on for days and add players like Malik Hooker and who is going to win the battle between Joe Milton and Sam Howell, but that is something that I think won’t get to spicy until the preseason, and they let em both play.

I am still very concerned about Tyler Guyton, and I think he is the guy under the most pressure as all these guys walk in the building today.

He has not lived up to his first round pick, and if he does not figure it out starting this week, the Cowboys should not try and fight off his issues and look to replace him if he struggles even heading into the week one matchup with the Giants.

Terence Steele is also a problem, and I don’t think he is good either, but at least we have seen a year in which he could play at a level that is good enough. Guyton has not yet.

I am just glad Cowboys football is starting back up, even if it is the stuff that people don’t care to pay much attention to.
