Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones featured in new Dr Pepper ‘Fansville’ ad

On Thursday, Dr Pepper debuted its latest advertisement in its “Fansville” campaign. In the commercial, fans from “Fansville” are traveling for their first away game, but become terrified when they end up in a town that isn’t obsessed with college football the way they are.

They ultimately stop their car to ask a local for directions to the football stadium. That local happens to be Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. In the ad, Jones provides a tongue-in-cheek response: “Football stadium? We don’t kick off until Sunday here.”

Ironically, the Cowboys aren’t kicking off on Sunday this week. Instead, they will be squaring off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday to open the NFL season.

The Cowboys will be under the microscope after Jones and the team’s front office traded star EDGE Micah Parsons to the Packers in late August. In exchange for the three-time All-Pro, the Cowboys received defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks (2026 and 2027).

Parsons was seeking a new contract with the Cowboys. But, after the team refused to come to the negotiation table, he officially requested a trade on Aug. 1.

The dispute reportedly could be traced back to March, when Parsons and Jerry Jones met and discussed the former Penn State standout’s contract. At the time, Parsons and Jones reportedly came to a verbal agreement.

However, after Parsons wanted to involve his agent in the new deal, Jones became frustrated and didn’t reach out to Parsons about the contract again. During an appearance on Good Morning America, Jones discussed his controversial decision.

“We have two kinds of capital or currency in the NFL,” Jones said. “One of them is draft picks. The other is the financial, because every team is limited to the same amount of resources to spend, and having said that, Micah enabled us to have four, possibly as many as six players, for the future. That’s a good trade when you need numbers. I’ll take the numbers every time.”

The Cowboys will undoubtedly feel Parsons’ absence. He is only the second player in NFL history to record 12 sacks in each of his four seasons in the league. Parsons tallied 43 tackles, 12 sacks and two forced fumbles last season despite missing four games due to injury.

Now, Jones can only hope the Cowboys can succeed without him. On Thursday, Dallas will face off against the Eagles at 8:20 p.m. ET. The game will air live on NBC.
