The Seattle Seahawks paid their Super Bowl tax earlier this offseason, losing multiple contributors during NFL free agency. Those losses include edge rusher Boye Mafe, who signed with the Bengals. But the Seahawks added one veteran edge rusher this offseason who should help fill the void.
Seahawks linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. revealed the recruiting pitch that his former teammate DeMarcus Lawrence made to him before joining the team.
“We talked for like 30 minutes on FaceTime, just chopping it up, and after that I made my decision,” Fowler said on Monday per Seahawks reporter John Boyle. “If you want to win a Super Bowl, you should come here.”
Fowler and Lawrence played two seasons together with the Cowboys from 2022-23. They will reunite on Seattle’s “Dark Side” defense during the 2026 season. Both players should have a big role at edge alongside Uchenna Nwosu this fall.
Fowler is also excited to play for defensive coordinator Aden Durde once again.
“Really because of the defensive coordinator, Coach AD,” Fowler said about joining the Seahawks. “Me and him have a really great relationship going all the way back to when I was playing with the Falcons, and when we had a really great defense with the Cowboys. So just being able to come and play for him again as a defensive coordinator is really cool. I’ve been a fan of Mike Macdonald since he was the defensive coordinator at the Baltimore Ravens, so just to be able to be a part of this defense is really special.”
Seattle should have a chance to repeat as Super Bowl champions if their defense can continue playing at an elite level during the 2026 season.
It will be exciting to see how Fowler factors into that equation later this fall.
