DeAndre Hopkins signing two-year deal with Titans

The DeAndre Hopkins pursuit finally reached the finish line on Sunday.

The free-agent wide receiver will reportedly be signing a two-year deal with the Tennessee Titans. According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the contract will pay Hopkins $26M with incentives that could make it worth as much as $32M.

After the Arizona Cardinals were unable to work out a trade involving Hopkins, they released him and allowed him to become a free agent. Several teams were interested with the Titans and New England Patriots being the most prominent contenders for his services.

In the end, it was the Titans that got him.

And they need him.

The Titans have had a major hole at wide receiver after trading A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2022 season. 

Hopkins should immediately step into the lineup and be their go-to target in the passing game. 

On paper, it makes a lot of sense. But there are still some questions as to how it is all going to work out on the field.

At his peak, Hopkins was one of the best wide receivers in football and a major big-play threat. But he is going to be 31 years old this season, has been limited to just 19 games the past two years, and his production has been a fraction of what it used to be even when he has been on the field. He will help the Titans, but if they are expected prime-era DeAndre Hopkins they might be disappointed.

That does not even scratch the surface of the question marks on Tennessee's offense. 

The Titans have completely rebuilt their offensive line under new general manager Ran Carthon, and also still have a huge question mark at quarterback. Veteran Ryan Tannehill is still on the roster, while the Titans also used a second-round pick on Kentucky quarterback Will Levis. Last year's third-round pick, Malik Willis, is also still on the roster for now but is not guaranteed a spot this season. 

Derrick Henry is still there to lead the ground game, but as good as he there is going to come a point where all of that wear and tear will start to take its toll. The Titans definitely have some star power at the skill positions with Henry and Hopkins, but it is also not 2018 anymore. 

The Titans were one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL in 2022, losing seven games in a row to close out the season and miss the playoffs.
