Detroit Lions trading for Joey Porter Jr?

The Detroit Lions could have an opportunity to add a talented piece to their secondary. But that depends on whether the Pittsburgh Steelers decide to move Joey Porter Jr.

Porter and Pittsburgh have reportedly struggled to find common ground on a new contract. While the Steelers would presumably prefer to keep the young cornerback, a trade could become an option.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox proposed Detroit as a potential landing spot, with the Lions sending a 2027 first-round pick to Pittsburgh for Porter.

For Detroit, the price would be significant, but adding a proven starting cornerback is an urgent requirement. Porter started 14 games last season and finished with 52 tackles, one sack and one interception. Porter has remained relatively measured when discussing his future:

“Really can’t speak too much about the future. But today I was out there today running with the guys, still trying to get back fully, but we’re going to take it day by day for the most part.” (via ESPN)

Detroit Lions need cornerback depth

The Detroit Lions need more cornerback depth after the situation with Terrion Arnold. Arnold was released by the Lions soon after his arrest in the offseason. After Arnold’s release, D.J. Reed and Rock Ya-Sin are expected to start at cornerback.

Lions GM Brad Holmes addressed the cornerback situation saying, “We like the guys we have right now in that room.”
