Did Ty Simpson Prove He's a Franchise QB?

The Los Angeles Rams have a massive season approaching in 2026-27, and while this season has Super Bowl aspirations, the Rams need to be thinking about life after Matthew Stafford. They shocked the entire NFL world drafting Ty Simpson in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Despite passing up on elite talents like Makai Lemon, Rueben Bain, and others, they still made a major splash with the Myles Garrett trade. We will have all season to breakdown the Rams 2026 season, but while we can, let's discuss how Simpson's first NFL snaps looked.

Ty Simpson Preseason Reaction

Simpson went 21/25 (84%) for 190 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs, and absolutely set the NFL World on fire. Of course this is just the preseason, but this performance is an excellent one to build upon. Simpson threw a grand total of zero passes beyond 20 yards, and while this was a massive point of discussion for people, there is also a stat that people need to know.

Super Bowl winning quarterback Sam Darnold also had zero passes of 20+ yards in the Super Bowl. The most positive sign for the Rams is the fact that Simpson was able to be extremely efficient, and was efficient running the play action game. All in all, this was just preseason but the Rams needed a positive sign from their first round pick and they got it.
