Dolphins Birthday: Standout Receiver Nat Moore Turns 75

One of the most accomplished wide receivers in franchise history, Nat Moore celebrates his 75th birthday today! He was born Sept. 19, 1951.

Selected in the third round of the 1974 NFL Draft out of Florida, Moore spent the entirety of his 13-year NFL career with the Miami Dolphins. A reliable target for two Hall of Fame quarterbacks — Bob Griese and Dan Marino — Moore remains one of the greatest wide receivers statistically in Dolphins history.   Over his 13 seasons, Moore played in 183 games, including 124 starts. Moore finished with at least 500 yards receiving 10 times and was Miami’s leading receiver in each of his first four NFL seasons from 1974 to 1977 and then again in 1979 and 1980. A member of the franchise from 1974 to 1986, Moore made his only Pro Bowl in 1977 when he finished with 765 receiving yards and an NFL-leading 12 touchdown catches — a Miami record at the time. Moore’s career-high for receiving yards came in 1979 when he finished with 840 yards through the air.   For his Miami career, Moore finished with 510 catches, 7,546 yards and 74 touchdown catches. He also rushed for one score. Moore has done color commentary in the past for Dolphins radio and television coverage and for his alma mater. Moore ranks third in team history in catches and receiving yards and is behind only Mark Clayton in touchdown receptions. Known for his work in the South Florida community, Moore was named the 1984 NFL Man of the Year, the 1985 Alan Paige Award recipient, and the winner of the Byron White Humanitarian Award in 1986. He was inducted into the Dolphins’ Ring of Honor in 1999.
