The Miami Dolphins are on a continuous quest for an experienced offensive tackle who could potentially provide this team with some much needed depth. The math of the Dolphins' offensive line situation is one that's been tested early on in training camp and the preseason. The interior group offers plenty of positional versatility, even with veteran Liam Eichenberg and second-year center Andrew Meyer missing time.
The offensive tackle situation? Well, that's something else entirely. Miami has Austin Jackson on ice with the start of the regular season in mind, which has elevated veteran tackle Larry Borom to the right tackle position for the remainder of camp. Behind him? Well, it's not settled to say the least. And now the Dolphins are swapping in a new contender to potentially challenge for Miami's OT4 role.

Germain Ifedi's stint on the active roster in Miami was a short one. Ifedi played in Miami's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears over the weekend and the results were...let's just call them 'uninspired'. Now Ifedi is placed on injured reserve, which will end his season unless the team comes to an agreement on an injury settlement in the future.
In his place, the Dolphins are signing former third-round draft choice by the New England Patriots out of West Virginia in 2019. Cajuste, a South Florida native from Miramar, was the Big 12's Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year in his final season in Morgantown before a pro career that has been largely marred by injuries. Cajuste dressed for 10 games in New England in 2022 logging nearly 200 snaps with the team.
He then spent the 2023 season in New York, first with the Jets and then the Giants as a member of the practice squad. The Giants signed him to a futures contract after the year but waived him on September 4, 2024.
Realistic expectations for Cajuste should be tempered but if he's in shape, he does have a chance to push Kion Smith for a potential OT4 role on Miami's 53-man roster. It's more likely he's a practice squad candidate that Miami is hoping to get on-boarded with enough time to be a viable call-up option if the Dolphins need him — but never say never. Right now, Miami is simply saying "we're not content" with their contenders for a potential bottom of the roster spot.
