Dolphins Release Cam Smith; Sign Cedrick Wilson Jr

The Miami Dolphins announced today that they have released CB Cam Smith from the reserved/NFI List. Ending his time in Miami.

The 51st pick of the 2023 draft had high expectations since joining the Dolphins, and many were hoping that he would have a breakout season this year for the Dolphins under defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. In South Carolina, Smith started 33 games, had six interceptions, and 91 tackles.

Smith will go down as one of the biggest draft busts in recent times in Dolphins history. A 2nd round pick who never got going and was in a rotation of playing time.

In other news, the Dolphins are signing a familiar face in WR Cedrick Wilson Jr off the Saints’ practice squad.

The Dolphins signed Wilson in March of 2022 to a 3-year, $22 million contract with $12 million guaranteed. A few weeks after signing Wilson, Miami traded for Tyreek Hill, and Wilson’s role in Miami was small.

Now Wilson is signed to replace Tyreek Hill after Hill had season-ending surgery, and his time in Miami has ended.

In 2024 with the Saints, Wilson had four starts, 20 receptions for 211 yards, and one touchdown.

For his career, he has played in 83 games, started 11, has 121 receptions for 1,480, and 12 touchdowns.

The Dolphins will use various targets to help replace the production lost by Hill. It is impossible to replace what Hill brought to the table in reality, but Wilson will be part of a committee.
