Dolphins Sign Matthew Judon
The Miami Dolphins are expected to sign Matt Judon to a 1-year contract worth up to $6 million in max value. Deal is all but done per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Judson is 33 years old and a former 5th-round pick of the Ravens in 2016. He has played for the Ravens, Patriots, and Falcons.
Last season in Atlanta, he played in 17 games, started 15, had one interception, and 5.5 sacks.
For his career, he has 72 sacks in 131 games played, of those 131, he started 97.
His PFF numbers last season weren’t great if you’re into PFF. Overall grade of 43, Pass Rush grade of 53.9. and a run defense grade of 53.6.
Many are speculating that this move is a sign that another move may be coming for the Dolphins.
Edge Rusher/OLB is their deepest position currently on this roster, so why add a veteran player here?
Many believe it is because they do not trust Bradley Chubb or Jaelan Phillips to stay healthy and play anywhere close to a full season, so this is insurance for that.

Others believe that the hype around Grayson Murphy, Derrick McLendon, Quinton Bell, and the backups at the Edge rusher position is just that, hype. So, they need a proven vet like Judon to come in and be a quality depth piece to play 15 or so snaps a game.
They have had flashes here or there, but are not anywhere near close to playing in a regular-season game, and if they were out there in a regular-season game, they would get eaten alive, so to speak.
A third theory is that this move may signal a trade is coming.
We know the Dolphins have no quality cornerbacks on their roster, and at safety, outside of Minkah Fitzpatrick, they don’t have much in the way of talent either.
So, by adding Judon, it may let Miami trade Bradley Chubb or Jaelan Phillips (both are in the final year of their contracts) for a cornerback or a safety. And having Judon on the roster allows Miami to backfill the edge rusher they are losing in advance.
No matter what the reason is, Matthew Judon is now in Miami and should be an asset as a rotational edge rusher.
