Dolphins to Release Bradley Chubb

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz is reporting the Dolphins will be releasing edge rusher Bradley Chubb.

Chubb will turn 30 in June, and his contract is about to skyrocket. As they enter this rebuild, the Dolphins will look to get younger and cheaper at the position.

After missing the entire 2024 season with a torn ACL, he started all 17 games for Miami in 2025 and was their best pass rusher.

He had 8.5 sacks and 20 quarterback hits this past season.

The Dolphins had a chance to trade Bradley Chubb at the trade deadline this past season and didn’t pull the trigger, which is a decision ownership probably regret at this time, as it would have brought in more draft capital.

Chubb had a $31.2 million cap number in 2026, so it makes financial sense to move on from him at this time.

If this is a pre-June 1st release, Miami will eat $23 million of dead cap, and open up $7.3 million in cap space.

If this ends up being a post-June 1st release, Miami will eat $10 million of dead cap but open up $23 million in cap space.

Each NFL team is only allowed 2 Post-June 1st cuts per season, and with Miami most likely using one of those on Tua, we will see how they handle the Chubb release.

With Jaelan Phillips traded to the Eagles at the deadline, and now Chubb being released, the Dolphins have a huge void at the edge rusher position.

Chop Robinson is coming off a very disappointing 2025 season, one in which he battled injuries as well. He will need to rebound in 2026 and have more on-field production for the Dolphins.

I fully expect Miami to be looking at edge rushers in the early rounds of the 2026 draft, where they currently hold five picks in the Top 90.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they double down on edge rushers in the early rounds as well.

Not to mention, even though Miami isn’t expected to be a big player in free agency, they may need to add a body or two at this position via free agency.

The Dolphins parted with significant draft capital for Bradley Chubb in 2022, and he played well for them when he was healthy.

But Chubb, approaching 30 and having 3 ACL injuries in his career, makes this an easy decision for the new Dolphins front office.
