Dolphins Trade Pitch Lands Packers First-Round Defensive Lineman

After an offseason with minimal spending, the Miami Dolphins have precise needs in the trenches. While the offensive line, mainly the left side, needs an overhaul, the Dolphins also desperately need defensive line help.

In this trade pitch, the Dolphins swing a move with the Green Bay Packers for former first-round defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt. Wyatt was the 28th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, and at 27 years old, he's heading into the final year of his rookie deal.

Miami needs to add along the interior of the defensive line, and Wyatt would be an excellent option for the Dolphins. As he's in the final year of his deal, he likely won't cost the Dolphins more than a third-round pick at most.

According to Pro Football Focus, Wyatt had five sacks and 32 pressures for the Packers in 2024. He primarily lined up as a defensive tackle, and the Dolphins would have him play in the interior of their defensive line.

The Packers would be willing to move off their former first-round pick after his role took a step back in 2024. In 2023, Wyatt played 644 snaps, while in 2024, he saw just 366.

Wyatt would be one of the Dolphins' starters along the defensive line in 2025, lining up next to Zach Sieler, Benito Jones, Jaelan Phillips, Chop Robinson, and Bradley Chubb.

Adding Wyatt would transform a questionable defensive front into one of the Dolphins' strongest position groups. It would create a solidified defensive front, with no position left unfilled.

It would also give the Dolphins flexibility in the NFL Draft to take an offensive lineman or another position in the first round. Otherwise, the front office would have to address the defensive line.

Wyatt would be a cost-effective pickup for the Dolphins along the defensive line. This trade pitch would help the Dolphins on the field in 2025 and also give the front office a lot of flexibility in the NFL Draft.
