Drew Brees will be back on your television screens quite soon. No, he's not suiting up in black and gold to throw passes to Chris Olave or Alvin Kamara, but he is garnering another opportunity to prove himself in the broadcast booth after his prior experience calling games was cut short too swiftly for his liking.

Drew Brees returns as game analyst for NFL games

According to Andrew Marchand, FOX has signed Brees to a contract as a full-time game analyst. It is a multi-year deal, so there shouldn't be a rush on him to be firing on all cylinders right off the bat. That should be a welcome sign for the former Saints star. Additionally, he will get to work with a lineup of broadcasters that includes Tom Brady and Greg Olsen.

I discussed the addition of Brees to FOX and how Brady could help him going forward with A to Z's own Sophie Weller. She provided valuable insight into how the latter has developed when calling games after being one of the best players in football history.

"For Brady, his confidence has been the main thing that's improved and is something Brees can certainly learn from. Now obviously, to play the quarterback position, one has to be very confident. But playing and broadcasting are two very different things so, naturally, it was a big transition. However now Brady is more clear in his comments, leaving no doubt in what he's talking about. Also, he is relying on his past as a player more.

That's what makes him unique at this role and is what he should do. He knows the ins and outs of being on the field, and that's what fans want to hear about and understand because that's something they can't relate to. But with Brady, he can paint the photo and make them feel like they are out there too." -- Sophie Weller, A to Z Sports

Brees' confidence in himself hasn't wavered

Brees has remained confident in his analysis and announcing abilities, even when he hasn't been given quite as many opportunities as other former greats.

“I have so much respect for a lot of guys in the booth right now, but I’d step in the booth today and be a top-3 guy. Give me a few years, and I could be the best.”— Drew Brees via Dan Patrick Show

Brees is getting another chance as a game day analyst for some NFL action this season during the holidays as well. It's been reported that the former Saints QB will be an analyst for Netflix on Christmas Day. The specific matchup that he will be a part of is not known yet, though. These new chances for Brees will be a happy moment for legendary broadcaster Joe Buck, too. He's been rooting for his return to the booth.

“I think Jason Witten got a bad shake. I think Drew Brees got a raw deal. And if there’s anybody who was ever created in a computer to be a top analyst at a network, I think it’s Drew Brees, and I would love to see him get another chance at that. He got one game, and he was working with a new crew and a new play-by-play guy, and everybody expected brilliance. You make one comment, and it gets its own life on social media. It’s just ridiculous.” — Joe Buck via the Sports Media with Richard Deitsch’s podcast

Undoubtedly, it's great to see that Brees is getting another shot to prove himself and how much he can improve if given time in the booth. Brady has definitely improved since he started broadcasting games, so we will see if Brees makes strides as well.
