Dulcich Could Be Long-Term Solution at Tight End
With a losing record, Miami should be looking at every avenue possible to find players to help in the long term.
At 4-7, while there is a likelihood of the Dolphins turning things around and making a playoff run, the more likely scenario is that the team finishes the year with seven or eight wins and misses the postseason for a second straight season.
With needs at so many positions, the Dolphins should be looking at drafting the best player available.
Coming into the midway point of the year, one of the positions that I thought the team would look into drafting a player early was at tight end.
I thought with Darren Waller being injured, on a one-year deal and nearing his mid-30s, and Julian Hill being more of a primary blocking tight end, Miami would be searching for a new #1 tight end in the offense who could stretch opposing defenses.
Tight End’s coach Jon Embree, I am sure, was begging for help at his position group.
However, similar to 2019 when the Dolphins unearthed a gem from the waiver wire in Zach Sieler, Miami could have done the same this year with Greg Dulcich.
Dulcich, still only 25 years old, was originally a third-round pick by the Broncos out of UCLA in 2022.
He showed why he was a top-100 pick in his first year in the league with 33 receptions for 411 yards and two touchdowns, but in the two years after that, his NFL journey hit a snag as he only combined for eight receptions for 53 yards in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
In only four games in Miami, he has nearly doubled that production in both categories with eight receptions for 89 yards, which included a five-reception, 49-yard performance in the game against Baltimore.
Dulcich’s career with the Broncos was hampered by a hamstring injury that he suffered in his second year.
Now fully past that setback, it seems like Dulcich is getting back to the player he was in his rookie year with the Broncos.
If so, Miami might’ve found a crucial player for the future.
