The Eagles could be in a bit of a predicament once Week 1 of the 2025 season comes to an end, with the Minnesota Vikings taking on the Chicago Bears.
Once the week ends, the executives at the league office will review all unsportsmanlike penalties, ejections, and so on to decide what suspensions or fines will be issued to players. For Jalen Carter, it appears that on Monday, he'll receive some confirmation about his standing going into Week 2.
Carter was ejected after only one play in the Eagles' 24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys. He was caught on camera and by the referees spitting at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
While a league official told USA TODAY Sports' Jarrett Bell initially that a suspension for Carter isn't on the table, it was recently reported that Carter's suspension won't happen. Other reporters have stated it's not entirely off the table.
With Carter's status uncertain for the time being, the Eagles may look to Ty Robinson to fill the void if needed.
Robinson was inactive in Week 1; however is a rookie fourth-round pick from a loaded 2025 draft class out of Nebraska.
Robinson put together a "decent" preseason, playing over 100 total defensive snaps. Robinson registered three tackles and one sack through three preseason games and gained a little bit of infamy against the Bengals, in which he shed a block slowly, quickly, and he thought it was a screen pass. While Robinson had obviously shown flashes of talent, the Eagles felt comfortable enough to make him a healthy "scratch" going into Week 1.
While Robinson's development is still ongoing, he may be forced into action sooner rather than later. If Carter is to miss one game, Robinson would most likely provide rotational depth with Gabe Hall and Byron Young.
For Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, he's hoping that the NFL is a bit more lenient towards one of the NFL's best interior defensive linemen. The Cowboys rushed for 121 yards against the Carter-less Eagles defense, including a 49-yard run by former Eagles running back Miles Sanders, who later helped Philly recover a fumble lost on the same drive.
The Eagles head to Kansas City for a Super Bowl rematch against the Chiefs.
