Eagles Part Ways With Former First-Round Pick, 2-Time All-American
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Fourth-year offensive lineman Kenyon Green’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles has come to an end again, at least for now.

The Eagles waived Green , a 2022 first-round pick of the Houston Texans, on Monday after adding ex-New York Giants receiver Xavier Gipson. Philadelphia previously waived Green on August 25 and September 6. The 6-foot-4, 325-pound Green, who spent time on Philadelphia’s practice squad, did not appear in any of the Eagles’ first three games.

Green, the No. 15 pick and a two-time unanimous All-American offensive lineman at Texas A&M, has failed to make a positive impact since entering the league. Pro Football Focus rated Green as the NFL’s worst guard in 2022, with his 37.7 grade ranking last among qualified guards.

After missing all of 2023 with a shoulder injury, Green returned last season and earned a 38.6 grade. Houston moved on after Green finished as PFF’s third-worst offensive lineman who played at least 500 snaps.

The Eagles acquired Green and a 2026 fifth-round pick in exchange for veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and a 2026 sixth-round pick in March.

Green’s struggles come after he entered the league with extremely high expectations. NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein compared Green to former Pro Bowl guard Richie Incognito ahead of the 2022 draft and suggested the ex-Texas A&M standout would become a “good starter” within two years.

“He has pop and anchor in pass protection, but lacks recognition and mirror technique needed to be at his best against athletic interior rushers,” Zierlein wrote. “While Green has some areas to improve, his run blocking can be dominant, which gives him a chance to become a good starter very quickly.”

We’ll see whether any team adds the 24-year-old Green off waivers within the coming days.
