Eagles Place Jonathan Greenard On PUP

Greenard was a splashy offseason pickup for the Eagles, who acquired the one-time Pro Bowler from the Vikings on the second night of the draft. After the Eagles sent a 2026 third-round pick and a ’27 third-rounder to the Vikings for Greenard and a seventh-rounder, they immediately gave him a long-term deal. They have him under contract on a four-year, $100MM pact with $50MM in guaranteed money.

Greenard, a six-year veteran, began his career as a Texans second-rounder in 2020. He has since notched between eight and 12.5 sacks in three seasons, though injuries have been an issue throughout his time in the league. To this point, 2024 has been Greenard’s lone full season. It was also arguably his best, as he posted 12 tacks and tied or set career highs in tackles (59), quarterback hits (22), TFL (18), forced fumbles (four) and pass deflections (three).

A shoulder injury prevented Greenard from building on his 2024 success last season, his second and last in Minnesota. He played just 12 games before undergoing season-ending surgery in mid-December. Greenard logged 38 tackles, 12 QB hits, 10 TFL and three sacks along the way. Although most of his his counting stats were not great, he finished 17th in hurries (35) and 30th in pressures (47). Greenard’s work impressed Pro Football Focus, which ranked his play a solidly above-average 31st among 119 edge defenders.

Assuming Greenard’s latest injury doesn’t shelve him for an extended period, Philadelphia will bank on him to replace the departed Jaelan Phillips. The Eagles tried to keep Phillips, but over a month after he accepted the Panthers’ four-year, $120MM offer in free agency, they pivoted to Greenard. The 29-year-old is now atop a deep edge-rushing group that also includes Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and free agent additions Arnold Ebiketie and A.J. Epenesa.
