As teams wrap up OTAs and kick off mandatory minicamps, there are going to be some massive storlyines popping up. For the Philadelphia Eagles, they don't have to deal with some of the drama like other teams do.
But, Philly could take advantage of said drama in a big way. Over in Miami, Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith is not present for minicamp and is fighting for a new contract. He's also been in trade discussions with another Pennsylvania team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
If the Eagles wanted to take advantage of the situation, Howie Roseman should get on the phone with Miami right now. After all, Smith would help answer a longstanding question at the tight end position.
Dallas Goedert has been subject of some rumors and whispers over the last several months, although the Eagles and Goedert did agree to a restructured contract to keep him around.
Still, it doesn't seem like the team is completely sold on keeping him around for the long haul. Goedert has had injury concerns and has not been as dependable as the Eagles would have liked.
That's where a player like Smith can come in and make an immediate impact.
Last year, the Dolphins starter put up a career season with 88 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns. He became a favorite target for Tua Tagovailoa, who also had a star-studded wide receiver duo to work with in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
In Philly, Smith would get a similar treatment with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith absorbing a ton of attention. Jalen Hurts would have a more dependable tight end option in Smith, but what's more: this offense could potentially run some lethal 12 personnel when Goedert is healthy.
If a Smith trade went down, that wouldn't necessarily mean Goedert is out immediately. So long as he's on the roster and able to get on the field, Goedert would gives Smith a decent running mate.
