The task of defeating the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have just gotten that much more difficult for the 2-3 Philadelphia Eagles days before they're set to welcome Tom Brady and company to town for a Thursday prime-time showdown.
Per Tim McManus of ESPN, the Eagles placed tight end Dallas Goedert on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, which puts his status for Thursday's game in doubt. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo (h/t Chase Goodbread) reports Goedert is vaccinated against the coronavirus, meaning he could be cleared to return to team activities if he produces two negative tests 24 hours apart and is asymptomatic for 48 hours.
However, McManus added Goedert missed Monday's practice because of an unspecified illness, which suggests the 26-year-old will have to watch Thursday's contest from home.
According to ESPN stats, Goedert sits third on the Eagles with 216 receiving yards, fourth with 15 catches and tied for first with two receiving touchdowns. He tallied two grabs for 28 yards in this past Sunday's win over the Carolina Panthers.
Tampa Bay, meanwhile, improved to 4-1 via a dominant 45-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins as the previously mentioned Brady played through a thumb injury and recorded five touchdown passes with 411 yards. Brady said Tuesday that setback is "no serious injury at all" and shouldn't keep him off the field Thursday night.
