The Philadelphia Eagles are currently taking part in OTAs as they gear up for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Eagles are looking to bounce back after a frustrating 2025 campaign that saw them lose in the Wild Card round of the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Eagles’ defense was among the best units in the NFL throughout last season, and recently, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio announced an intriguing update regarding star cornerback Cooper DeJean.

“#Eagles DC Vic Fangio told reporters Cooper DeJean will play safety in base personnel, a change from last season when DeJean started at outside CB in base,” reported Jeff McLane of the Inquirer on X, formerly Twitter.

McLane also clarified that “Cooper DeJean will continue to slide to slot CB in nickel personnel, per Fangio.”

Cornerback has always been DeJean’s natural position, dating back to his days as a college star for the Iowa Hawkeyes, so it’s certainly interesting that the Eagles will be switching up where he plays in base coverage moving forward.

The defensive back is entering his third year in the NFL, and has already established himself as an elite talent at the highest level, recording a pick six of Patrick Mahomes in Philadelphia’s 2024 Super Bowl win.

While they may be making tweaks on defense, the Eagles will need a lot more out of their offense heading into 2026, as that unit struggled mightily throughout the 2025 season. Many expect that star wide receiver AJ Brown will be traded within the next few weeks, and Philadelphia will also want to see a bounce-back year from quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Eagles are slated to begin their 2026 season in early September.
