ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky is hoping NFL fans will extend a helping hand this June.

Orlovsky, a former quarterback for the Detroit Lions, has become a prominent analyst for ESPN. He's constantly featured on "Get Up" and "NFL Live" among other shows. Earlier this month, he was nominated for a Sports Emmy for Best Analyst. Although he didn't win the award, he's hopeful he'll be right back in the running next year.

"I really love what I’m doing right now. I think this process of going through being nominated and being a part of last night, it kind of — I don’t want to say re-energizes because energy is not what I need — it makes me want to continue to climb things," Orlovsky said. "I’m going to be honest with you, I was up for [best] analyst last night, as well. I was furious for not winning. Furious."

In the meantime, Orlovsky is using his platform to raise funds for one of the worst diseases in the world.

Orlovsky announced Thursday morning that he's going to play 100 holes of golf on June 17 in an effort to raise awareness for ALS research. ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It leads to muscle weakness and paralysis among other issues.

Orlovsky will be teaming up with his friend Chuck Haberstroh to accomplish this goal.

"On June 17th coming up here, I'm going to play 100 holes of competitive golf with my boy Chuck Haberstroh," Orlovsky said. "We're doing it for awareness and research and to raise funds for ALS.

"ALS is an awful disease - I didn't know a ton about it. I played a guy named Tim Shaw, linebacker from the Titans, who got it. A lot of people know Steve Gleason from the Saints who got it. Then I watched Chuck Haberstroh lose his mom to this awful disease."

The popular ESPN analyst attached a link for fans willing to donate to this cause.

Hopefully, Orlovsky''s actions will inspire others to join the fight against ALS.
