Professional athletes - although making hundreds of millions of dollars in some cases - aren't always known for their frugality and money management skills. Certainly, there are exceptions.
But in most cases, we hear stories of former players who have blown their fortune and are left penniless later in life.
Sometimes it comes sooner than later.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Antonio Brown has recently claimed that he has lost all his money and is penniless at age 36. Brown appeared on the One Night with Steiny Podcast to discuss his financial difficulties.
"I think I made $100 million, if you count off the field and everything," Brown said. "I just filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy, you feel me? I spent all of it. I blew all my money. I blew everything."
Brown has not played in the NFL since 2021, when he famously walked off the field while removing his uniform after a verbal altercation with then-Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians.
However, he's remained in the news for various reasons, mostly legal issues. Brown now claims his money went to friends and family.
"The people I had in my life, they just took the money that I made in the NFL, and they didn't make the money mines no more," Brown said. "You know what I'm saying. They put that away fro me family, generations and trusts, and then threw it out there. So whatever I made in football, I just saved it for my family, generation, my kids."
Brown made seven Pro Bowls and won Super Bowl LV as a member of the Buccaneers.
But he'll be known more for his off-the-field antics and ramblings on social media. And now, for his bankruptcy.
