Fantasy Football: The Top Plays For Week 6
USA Today Sports

Deciding on who the best fantasy football plays are every week takes more than just saying “start your studs”. You need to look at matchups, game flow, defensive schemes, narratives, and more. These are the top Week 6 plays at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end.

Top Fantasy Football Plays for Week 6

QUARTERBACK

Justin Herbert, Chargers

The Chargers running game is in shambles with both Harris and Hampton out, and they’re going to have to lean on their passing attack, which is just fine so long as the OL can protect Herbert. He’s got three fantastic receivers to throw to, and he should throw for about 265 yards and at least two touchdowns.

Daniel Jones, Colts

It feels like we haven’t seen the best from Jones because the Colts haven’t had to pass for all four quarters. That could change this week against the Cardinals, who should be airing it out with all the injuries they have in the run game. That will force Jones to have to play all out. If that happens, he should be able to get 230 passing yards to go along with about 40 or 50 rushing yards and a good chance for two touchdowns with at least one on the ground.

Matthew Stafford, Rams

This one feels like a slam dunk–you have the Rams, who are coming off a terrible loss last Thursday night against arguably the worst defense in the league, and what do you get? You should get Matthew Stafford throwing for 250 yards and two touchdowns.

RUNNING BACK

Christian McCaffrey, 49ers

It is extremely hard to run against Tampa. This forces their opponents to have to throw more, and if that happens, nobody’s going to see more targets than Christian McCaffrey. He should easily be getting double-digit targets out of the backfield, and all he’ll need is to break one or two big plays to get about 25 to 30 fantasy points and help fantasy managers win.

Josh Jacobs, Packers

There may be no better play in all of fantasy football in Week 6 than Josh Jacobs scoring a touchdown. The Bengals will be better with Joe Flacco as their quarterback, but they are still no match for the Packers. What we do know about Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is that sometimes he doesn’t open up the offense as much as he should, and he tends to rely on the run game.

Rico Dowdle, Panthers

There’s no better revenge narrative this week than Rico Dowdle going up against the Dallas Cowboys. After the season that Dowdle had last year, it was very surprising that Dallas did not re-sign him. He ended up going to Carolina on a one-year deal for just $2 million. If you were Dowdle, wouldn’t you be a little annoyed at Dallas? He’s going to be a lot annoyed, and I think he’s going to run for at least 100 yards and a touchdown this week.

WIDE RECEIVER

Tetairoa McMillan, Panthers

McMillan is Carolina’s featured receiver, and it’s clear that he is the one who makes the team go on offense. Bryce Young looks to him on every drop-back, and against Dallas’s weak secondary, there should be no reason that he doesn’t get another 10 to 12 targets. Put him down for about eight catches for 74 yards and a great chance to find the end zone.

Davante Adams, Rams

Everyone will rightfully say that Puka Nacua is the best wide receiver to start this week for the Rams, but Adams could still find the end zone against the Ravens. Matthew Stafford is still trying to work out his connection with Adams, and this potential blowout game against the Ravens might be the ideal time to do it.

Chris Olave, Saints

Christian Gonzalez will likely be covering Rashid Shaheed, which will leave Olave open in the middle of the field. With Alvin Kamara banged up with an injured ankle, Spencer Rattler will be looking to Olave on first and second downs more often than usual. New Orleans loves to play fast, and Olave should be a big beneficiary this week.

TIGHT END

Trey McBride, Cardinals

McBride was a huge disappointment in Week 5, but Week 6 is a new week, and Arizona should be trailing against Indianapolis. There’s no bigger king of garbage time production than McBride, and it seems like when Arizona’s losing, Kyler Murray drops back and McBride is his first look.

Jake Ferguson, Cowboys

Carolina is horrifically bad against opposing tight ends, which makes Ferguson an ideal start. Dak Prescott has been leaning on Ferguson as his number two receiver with Lamb out, and that should continue on Sunday. Look for Ferguson to get about 7 to 8 catches for 60 to 70 yards and find the end zone once again.

David Njoku, Browns

A good tight end is the perfect security blanket for any young quarterback. Last week, Dillon Gabriel leaned on Njoku and Harold Fannin against Minnesota, and you can fully expect him to do so again against Pittsburgh and their tough pass rush. Look for Njoku to dominate targets and get about 12-15 fantasy points.
