Fantasy Football Week 1: Panic Or Patience

Week one of the fantasy football season, prior to SNF, was filled with low-scoring efforts from some top draft picks. It’s only one week, but is it already time to panic on some of the best players in the NFL?

Nico Collins

Nico Collins is an exceptional receiver, but he only received five targets during Sunday’s loss. He caught three of the targets for a measly 25 yards. The entire Houston Texans’ passing attack was weak, but seeing Collins get completely shut down was a surprise. Overall, he is just too talented to be held down consistently. It is not the time to panic about Collins, but if the lack of targets continues, it may get a little concerning.

Kenneth Walker

Kenneth Walker was being drafted as RB17 in fantasy drafts this year. His injury history is what concerned many owners, but week one brought on a new challenge. Zach Charbonnet got more carries than Walker, and he also outperformed him. This is the last thing Walkers’ owners wanted to see, and this certainly will bring panic. If Walker is going to have his role reduced this way, it is definitely a reason for panic.

AJ Brown

AJ Brown was drafted in the second round of most fantasy drafts, and he comes with the known risk of a run-heavy offense. He was held to just one reception for eight yards on Thursday night football. The Philadelphia Eagles will get him the ball, so dealing with these types of performances is just part of the game. Brown will have his big performances, but patience is needed.

End Of My Fantasy Football Rant

After just one week, it is best to be patient with some of your top draft picks. Only in extreme circumstances, like Walker’s, should fantasy owners be brought to a panic after one game. Elite receivers having down games where the passing attack just wasn’t working is annoying, but fine. Patience is needed, and they will come back with big performances as they always do.
