Finalized look at Commanders' official 2026 NFL Draft pick order, and biggest storylines surrounding them

This will hopefully be the last time the Commanders head into the draft with a lack of picks to work with, and the roster is in a better place to help with that. Peters has to make the most of all six picks this offseason, however, and the biggest debate will be around the No. 7 overall pick.

Biggest storylines surrounding the Commanders' draft options

Everyone will be watching what the Commanders decide to do with the No. 7 overall pick, which also depends on how the board falls. Peters did a great job of covering almost every roster hole in free agency with the additions to the defense, but there is still a glaring hole at WR and CB.

The Commanders could take a lockdown CB like Mansoor Delane with the No. 7 overall pick, or look for their next WR1 in Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, or Makai Lemon. If a player like Rueben Bain Jr or Caleb Downs slips to seven, the Commanders may be able to trade back a few spots for more picks, while still taking who they want.

Finding value in the later rounds will be another major storyline, with four of their six picks coming on Day 3 of the draft. The Commanders found Bill Croskey-Merritt in the seventh round last year, and now they need to do it again, but at a higher rate than they have in the past. The Commanders can come away as a competitive team once again, but nailing these picks is a big factor in that.
