Former Bills WR Stefon Diggs officially becomes the absolute winner of trade after additional details emerge
Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Although it's true the Stefon Diggs trade between the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans had multiple winners and losers, the latest news on the move leave no question as to who's the biggest winner of them all:

It's Diggs. And it's not even close.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Diggs was given a massive incentive ahead of the 2024 NFL season as he'll essentially be playing on a one-year deal next season.

Per the report, the Texans wiped out the final three years on Diggs' contract, which means he's trending toward free agency in 2025. Since he was owed $3.5 million in guaranteed money next season, the Texans moved that up to 2024.

This is absolutely massive for the superstar wide receiver. He'll be making $22.52 million this year no matter what while also getting the chance to cash in a year later by hitting the open market.

Considering the wide receiver market is rapidly rising (and will continue to as Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, and CeeDee Lamb chase imminent contract extensions), this sets Diggs up for a huge payday as long as he delivers on the hype under Bobby Slowik's offense. With how C.J. Stroud played in his rookie season, which was historically good for a first-year QB, his chances are looking great.

Naturally, a lot of people will continue to point to the fact that Diggs left a legit Super Bowl contender. But the reality is the Texans are not the same ol' Texans of yesterday. They're the odds-on favorites to win the AFC South and they'll be considered main characters in the AFC sweepstakes. With Stroud playing at the level he is, it's a team that can beat anyone on any given day.

Diggs isn't joining an average squad. In the meantime, he gets more guaranteed money and a chance for much more in 2025.

The trade makes sense for all parties involved but go ahead and pencil Diggs in as the absolute biggest winner out of the whole thing.
