Former Chargers Head Coach Brandon Staley Lands New NFL Job

Former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley has landed a prominent job for the 2025 NFL season.

Staley, 42, spent three seasons as the head coach of the Chargers before getting fired. He went 24-24 during that stretch, which included a playoff appearance in 2022. Unfortunately, his tenure will always be remembered for blowing a 27-0 lead in the wild card round of the playoffs.

After being fired by the Chargers in December 2023, Staley agreed to become an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers. His days in the Bay Area were numbered the moment Robert Saleh agreed to become the defensive coordinator for the 49ers.

Fortunately for Staley, he'll get to call his own defense next season. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the former Chargers coach has agreed to become the new defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.

For what it's worth, Staley hasn't been a defensive coordinator since the 2020 season. The Los Angeles Rams were No. 1 in scoring defense under his command.

Staley has history with Saints head coach Kellen Moore. In fact, Moore was his offensive coordinator in Los Angeles during the 2023 season.

Moore was introduced as the head coach of the Saints last week. He talked about the importance of being an authentic leader.

"I think everyone respects authenticity. Being yourself. We understand that there's challenges associated with this job," Moore said, via ESPN. "It is a leadership job first and foremost and it's very, very important. You're going to have to lead in a lot of different ways. You're going to have to challenge people, you're going to have to trust people. You're going to have to put people in challenging situations, so we're going to go through that."

Since his introductory press conference, Moore has hired Staley as his defensive coordinator and Doug Nussmeier as his defensive coordinator.

Saints fans are certainly hoping Staley will be a great addition to Moore's staff.
