It's been a tough start to former Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson's National Football League career with the Indianapolis Colts, as injuries have plagued him consistently. He injured his shoulder as a rookie and missed the final 12 games of the season, and in 2024, he missed six games, with two of them resulting in him being benched.
In Thursday's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, Richardson got the start in the midst of his quarterback battle with Daniel Jones. Richardson was set to get the majority of the snaps on Thursday night, but things took a turn for the worst early on.
The play which Richardson got injured was a blitz from the Ravens that sent edge rusher David Ojabo running free in Richardson's sight line. He unfortunately didn't see him, and it ended his night early.
Anthony Richardson is hot…it’s clear as day.

Richardson should have known that he was hot and made the adjustment. Him not seeing that is a little bit frustrating, especially since it ended in an injury. Luckily, he got good news about the injury to his arm, as it's a dislocated pinky, and he may return to practice as early as Saturday.

That's huge for the Colts and Richardson, who is in danger of losing the starting quarterback job to Jones. He talked about the play after the game, and recognized how he needs to be better.
"It was going to be hard for me to see anyway. My eyes are looking a certain way, but I just have to be keyed on when anybody brings pressure like that. I thought it would be the nickel, but they brought it from the other side. I just have to be ready to get the ball out."
It's a learning experience for Richardson, but the frustrating thing is that he should be in a better spot. Luckily for Richardson, he's got more time to win the job.
