Former NFL Scout Sentenced To Life In Prison

A former NFL scout has been sentenced to life in prison. Twice.

Blaise Taylor, a former scout for the Tennessee Titans, has been sentenced to life in prison – two life sentences, actually – after being convicted of poisoning his girlfriend and their unborn child.

Taylor was convicted on July 1. He received consecutive life sentences on Wednesday, September 9. The former NFL scout will be spending the rest of his life behind bars.

The sentencing comes after more than 80 people submitted letters to the court, vouching for Taylor’s character.

Nashville DA Jan Norman had a response to those letters in court.

“Your honor, the defense just submitted 87 letters all speaking to Mr. Taylor’s character,” Norman said, via Alicia Patton of WKRN.com. “They describe a man of honor, honesty, a man of great accomplishments and as someone who has faith in the Lord and was raised by a strong family. More than one of the authors of those letters actually stated he is someone they would want their own daughters to marry. The person described in these character letters, the authors themselves, not one mentioned Jade Benning, not one of them mentioned baby Ivy, and not one single letter out of the 87 letters mentioned anything about what Blaise Taylor did.”

Taylor was convicted of poisoning his girlfriend and their unborn child.

The former NFL scout’s defense team, meanwhile, is planning on appealing the case and the ruling.

“We are extremely disappointed but not surprised by the harsh sentence,” his attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, said. “This was a flawed trial of a tenuous case, and we will appeal and look forward to doing so.”

The court system does allow for appeals, and it sounds like that’s the position the former NFL scout will take.

For now, though, he’s officially been sentenced to life in prison.
