Former NFL Star: 'College Football Sucks'

With the NFL season set to begin this Thursday, a former All-Pro running back decided to throw major shade at college football's product.

During a recent episode of WFAN's "Evan & Tiki," there was a discussion about rookie quarterbacks having more immediate success in the NFL now as opposed to several years ago. In just the past two years, we've seen Jayden Daniels and C.J. Stroud put up great numbers while leading their teams, the Washington Commanders and Houston Texans, to the playoffs as rookies.

Former New York Giants star Tiki Barber, who had 10,449 rushing yards and 67 total touchdowns during his NFL career, believes college football has evolved to the point where quarterbacks can thrive as soon as they go pro.

However, Barber isn't a huge fan of college football. In fact, he thinks the product sucks.

"This is the evolution of college football. And by the way, as an aside…college football sucks," Barber said, via Awful Announcing. "It is a bad watch. Cause you don’t know who’s good and you don’t know who sucks. And even the good teams suck. So, college football is bad."

Tiki Barber will have different role this NFL season.

Barber has been a game analyst for CBS since 2019, working alongside Andrew Catalon, Matt Ryan and a few other broadcasters. Despite being a veteran for the network, he was quietly removed from this year's crew.

Here’s the 2025 broadcast roster for CBS:

  • Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson
  • Ian Eagle, J.J. Watt and Evan Washburn
  • Kevin Harlan, Trent Green and Melanie Collins
  • Andrew Catalon, Charles Davis, Jason McCourty and AJ Ross
  • Spero Dedes, Adam Archuleta and Aditi Kinkhabwala

Barber will keep himself busy by working for Giants.com’s gameday broadcasts this season.

“I am really excited to be joining the Giants gameday radio broadcast team on WFAN. This organization has meant so much to me, professionally and personally,” Barber said. “The Giants have a long history of legendary broadcasters and Wellington Mara always told them to call it like they see it because our fans know better. I look forward to providing analysis and insight that Giants fans appreciate.”

Before the Giants begin their 2025 campaign, Barber will have to fend off angry college football fans. To be fair though, he asked for it by riling them up.
