No. 7 seed Notre Dame is set to play the College Football Playoff national championship against No. 8 Ohio State at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Monday.
Per ESPN BET, the Irish are an 8-point underdog against the Buckeyes. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has a busy week trying to get his team prepared to play a talented Ohio State roster.
The Chicago Bears gave the Irish a distraction before the CFP national championship. Multiple reports have surfaced that Bears CEO Kevin Warren is interested in hiring Freeman as their head coach. Chicago has requested an interview with the 39-year-old coach.
Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Mike Golic Jr. wants the Bears to stay away from Freeman while he's preparing for the Buckeyes.
Golic, who played for the Irish when they last played for a national championship during the 2012 season, called the Bears "home wreckers" during an episode of "Gojo and Golic."
"We're going to hear a lot about these folks, the Bears continuing to sniff around Marcus Freeman," Golic said. "What part of contract extension did y'all not understand, Chicago? What kind of weird home wreckers are you? You know how much of your fan base loves this Notre Dame football team?
"How much of your fan base has derived the only joy in their lives from what Notre Dame's done this season?" he said. "And you want to come in here and keep talking about old stuff after Notre Dame and Marcus have locked it down? Shame on them."
Freeman signed an extension with the Irish in December. Notre Dame is set to pay Freeman approximately $9 million per season.
