Although there's still over two months lefts in the 2025 NFL season, a Pro Bowl quarterback has decided to walk away from the game.
Back in 2012, the Miami Dolphins selected Ryan Tannehill with the No. 8 pick. He was with the franchise until 2018, throwing for 20,434 yards and 123 touchdowns. By 2019, he was traded to the Tennessee Titans. That turned out to be the best move for his career.
Tannehill made an impact for the Titans in 2019, completing 70.3% of his passes for 2,742 yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. His production earned him Pro Bowl honors for the first time in his career.
After making a run to the AFC Championship Game, the Titans rewarded Tannehill with a four-year, $118 million extension. He ultimately finished his time in Nashville with 14,447 yards and 93 touchdowns.
Tannehill hasn't played in the NFL since the 2023 season. While his fans may want to see him attempt a comeback, he admit this fall that he's most likely done playing football.
“I think that chapter is closed,” Tannehill said in an exclusive interview with The Escapist. “I think last year, that was where I was at, if the right opportunity came up and was right for our family. Staying in shape and staying ready. I had plenty of calls, but nothing ever felt like the right opportunity that I was looking for. That was last NFL season. At this point, I think that ship has sailed for me.”
There won't be a spot in the Hall of Fame waiting for Tannehill, but make no mistake, the former NFL Comeback Player of the Year had a very respectable career.
