The Browns were 1-of-8 on third down and 1-of-2 on fourth down for a combined 2-of-10 on crucial downs. On the other side, the Jaguars were 5-of-10 on third down and didn’t attempt a fourth-down conversion. Jacksonville also forced two turnovers: an interception by Foye Oluokun that derailed Cleveland’s opening drive and a fumble from KC Concepcion, recovered by Josh Hines-Allen. If this game was any indication, they are well on their way to doing that. Parker Washington was targeted on six plays, doubling any other Jaguars pass-catcher, and he made the most of his opportunities. Washington caught five of them for 83 yards and a touchdown. He added a whopping 1.46 EPA/target, meaning that every time Lawrence targeted Washington, he added almost a point and a half worth of value to the offense. Washington is still in the midst of contract talks as the Jaguars try to find the sweet spot for an extension, and this performance makes it hard to rationalize not paying him what he’s asking for.
