Giants are facing a big Brian Burns question

The New York Giants still must figure out what to do with Kayvon Thibodeaux.

The former first-round pick is entering a contract year, and with Brian Burns and Abdul Carter there, he's clearly the odd man out.

However, that also puts the spotlight on his veteran teammate. Like Thibodeaux, Burns is also eligible to get paid, and the Giants should get a deal done before the price goes up.

According to Bleacher Report's Moe Moton, he's the team's most important contract extension right now, and it should be just a matter of time before they get a deal done.

The Giants will have to pay Brian Burns

“Coming off a 16.5-sack season, Burns can command a massive pay raise or at least a more financially stable deal,” wrote Moton. “In March, the Giants restructured his contract, and he has no guaranteed money for the remaining three years of his pact with the team. Big Blue can address that by coming to terms with his camp on an extension. The 28-year-old is by far the team’s best defensive player and should be paid accordingly.”

The market for edge rushers has blown up in the past couple of years. The Houston Texans just spent big bucks to keep Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. around for the long run.

Anderson is currently making $50 million in annual average value, and while it's hard to imagine Burns would come even close to that, he's looking at a big raise from his current $28.2 million base salary.

The Giants are looking forward to a crucial first season under John Harbaugh, and while their defensive line should be one of the stoutest, doing right by their star pass rusher will certainly help with motivation.
