It's no secret that the Philadelphia Eagles are criminally misusing wide receiver A.J. Brown this season. If you couldn't see it on the field, Brown made it clear with his passive-aggressive social media post after the Week 4 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fans aren't the only ones noticing the disconnect between Brown and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Even opposing coaches are surprised they can't get on the same page. Ahead of his team's "Thursday Night Football" matchup against the Eagles, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll stirred the pot with a targeted comment about Brown and Philadelphia's offense.
"Watch the tape, A.J. [Brown] is open a lot," Daboll told reporters on Tuesday. "There's a lot of weapons, I would say, on that offense, and whatever they choose to do is what they do."
It seems like an innocent comment on first glance, but Daboll knows exactly what he's doing. By feeding into Brown's frustration with the passing game, Daboll is attempting to increase the divide between Hurts and his No. 1 weapon.

Daboll might be on the hot seat due to his 19-36-1 record with the Giants, but he's not dumb. The 50-year-old has already seen Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo succumb to outside pressure. After Brown took to social media to complain about the offense and his usage in it, Patullo altered his play-calling to cater to his disgruntled wide receiver.
In Week 5 against the Denver Broncos, the Eagles attempted 38 passes and gave star running back Saquon Barkley only six carries. Coincidence? Probably not. Patullo seems to be in over his head. If he's tailoring his game plan to satisfy Brown or the frustrated Philadelphia fans, why wouldn't he cave to Daboll's veiled criticism of the Eagles offense?
Daboll is goading Patullo to take the ball out of Barkley's hands and force-feed Brown to prove him wrong. The mind games make this "TNF" matchup that much more intriguing.
