The New York Giants are reportedly adding another former Super Bowl champion to their list of quarterback targets.
After ditching Daniel Jones during the 2024 campaign, Big Blue is on the hunt for a new signal-caller. They're scheduled to host Russell Wilson for a visit on Friday and remain linked to Aaron Rodgers.
Before meeting Wilson, the Giants welcomed another veteran free agent. According to ESPN's Field Yates, they hosted Joe Flacco on Thursday.
ESPN's Jordan Raanan wrote that it "seems pretty safe" to say the Giants sign one of Rodgers, Wilson, or Flacco.
Flacco is 12 years removed from leading the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl 47 win over the San Francisco 49ers. The previous year, Eli Manning steered New York to his second championship.
Flacco trails Rodgers, Wilson, and Matthew Stafford -- who the Giants targeted before he signed a new deal with the Los Angeles Rams -- for the fourth-most career passing yards among active quarterbacks. However, he hasn't held a full-time starting job since 2017.
After three seasons as a New York Jets backup, Flacco sparked an unlikely renaissance to end the 2023 campaign. Replacing an injured Deshaun Watson, Flacco exceeded 300 passing yards in four straight wins to steer the Cleveland Browns into the playoffs.
The Indianapolis Colts, who signed Jones earlier this week, added Flacco to back up Anthony Richardson during the 2024 season. Yet head coach Shane Steichen benched the young first-round pick for the veteran in Week 4.
Flacco held his own with a 65.3 completion percentage and 90.5 quarterback rating in eight games. Yet the Colts returned to Richardson after Flacco yielded three picks in a Week 10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Fittingly enough, Flacco next played against the Giants in a game that complicated their offseason quarterback plans. Flacco coughed up three turnovers in a 45-33 Colts loss that cost the Giants the No. 1 pick in this year's draft.
As a result, the Giants could sign the 40-year-old as a temporary stopgap. That probably wouldn't deter them from considering a quarterback with the No. 3 overall selection.
