Brian Burns and the New York Giants failed to secure their first win of the 2025 NFL season in Week 2, falling to Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys 40-37 in overtime. Now, they look to jump to 1-2 in Week 3, facing Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Burns recorded three tackles and one sack against the Cowboys, bringing his 2025 sack total to three. But Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey was too much, hitting a game-tying field goal at the end of regulation and a game-winner as the clock hit zero in overtime.
With 4:15 left in the third quarter, the Cowboys had the ball at their own 30 while holding a 17-16 lead. On first down, Prescott hit running back Javonte Williams on a screen pass, but Burns blew up the play, dropping Williams for a one-yard loss. The former Carolina Panthers star then celebrated by staring down the Cowboys running back.
While no flag was thrown for unsportsmanlike conduct, the NFL still hit the Giants star with an $11,593 fine on Saturday for "taunting."
Burns wasn't the only player from Giants vs. Cowboys who was punished by the league. New York offensive tackle James Hudson was charged $12,172 for "striking" a Dallas defender. Cowboys wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were hit with two different fines each. And Dallas tight end Brevy Spann-Ford was charged $5,370 for a "leg whip."
"Giants OLB Brian Burns was fined $11,593 for taunting in the third quarter last Sunday against the Cowboys," wrote USA Today's Art Stapleton on X.
