Giants Make Decision On Aaron Rodgers After Jameis Winston Signing

The New York Giants have been linked to Aaron Rodgers since the start of free agency. And yet, the front office signed Jameis Winston to a two-year contract on Friday night.

Fox Sports insider Jordan Schultz reported that it's a two-year, $8 million deal for Winston. He can make up to $16 million depending on playing time. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback completed 61.1 percent of his passes during the 2024 season for 2,121 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Schultz said Winston could possibly start Week 1 for the Giants. There's also a chance he'll be asked to mentor a young quarterback. As of right now, the G-Men own the No. 3 pick in the upcoming draft.

You'd think this contract would take the Giants out of the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes.

Apparently, that's not true.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Giants will continue pursuing Rodgers despite adding Winston to their quarterback room.

"This does not change the Giants’ pursuit of Aaron Rodgers or alter any other possible QB routes," Garafolo said. "Just getting a veteran QB under contract in a QB room that only had Tommy DeVito coming into the day."

While the Giants may want Rodgers, it doesn't seem like the feeling is mutual right now. Earlier this Friday, he had a meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"Aaron Rodgers spent about six hours at the Steelers’ training facility today, meeting with their coaches," ESPN's Adam Schefter said. "It was said to be a positive visit, and the two sides will stay in touch."

Rodgers is no longer considered a top-three quarterback in the NFL, but the Giants and Steelers are in desperate need of an upgrade under center. Even at 41 years old, he'd give both franchises a boost.

We'll see where Rodgers ends up this offseason.
