Giants make significant decision on Jameis Winston

The New York Giants are very eager to keep Jameis Winston around for a while longer.

The Giants have agreed to a two-year, $13 million extension with Winston, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The new deal would keep Winston with the Giants through the 2028 season.

The Giants’ commitment indicates just how much they value Winston as a backup quarterback. They view him as a veteran leader and mentor for second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart and a high-end insurance policy in case Dart gets hurt.

Similarly, Winston is obviously comfortable in New York. He joined the Giants last year and appeared in three games, throwing for 567 yards and two touchdowns as well as two interceptions. The Giants lost both of his starts, though not necessarily by any fault of his own.

Winston, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, will be playing his 12th NFL season in 2026.
