Najee Harris  met with the Giants yesterday. His visit clearly went well, considering a deal is now in place.

Harris has agreed to a one-year contract with New York, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network report. The veteran running back has been recovering from an Achilles tear this offseason. He will now spend the remainder of training camp acclimating to his third career team.

Harris spent 2025 with the Chargers, playing for Jim Harbaugh. The Giants now have John Harbaugh in place as their head coach. New York’s staff also includes Greg Roman, who served as the Bolts’ offensive coordinator last year. Harris will of course also be a familiar face to John Harbaugh given the time they spent on either side of the Ravens-Steelers rivalry.

It was learned yesterday that Harris had been on the Giants’ radar for some time prior to his visit. It will be interesting to see how large of a role he is able to carve out in the team’s backfield moving forward. During his Steelers run, the former first-rounder handled 1,277 offensive touches across four seasons, so he has experience with shouldering a heavy workload.

Inefficiency was a concern in Harris’ case while he operated as Pittsburgh’s lead back. Nevertheless, the Alabama product topped 1,200 scrimmage yards during each of his first four NFL seasons. 2025 saw him make just three appearances prior to the Achilles tear, an injury which limited the Chargers’ RB depth and hinder Harris’ market. Now healthy, the 28-year-old will aim to rebound in 2026 and help secure an earlier contract agreement next offseason.

The Giants have Cam Skattebo on track to reprise his role as lead back during his second NFL campaign. The team’s depth chart also features the likes of Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy, but this Harris addition could change New York’s plans in the backfield. With the deadline for roster cuts approaching, a decision on several backup options at the RB spot will soon need to be made.

Entering Tuesday, the Giants had roughly $10.5MM in cap space. That figure ranked near the bottom of the NFL, but Harris’ arrival will no doubt come about via a deal at or near the veteran minimum.
