Green Bay Packers Legend Antonio Freeman’s Son Alex Freeman Debuts for United States Men’s National Soccer Team

Alex was a starter in a match for the United States as they faced Türkiye. At just 20 years old, he was the youngest player in the United States lineup. On his debut, Alex played the full 90 minutes and put together a solid overall game.

Antonio played offense during his day, but Alex plays the defensive position of right back. Despite facing a strong player in Türkiye’s Kenan Yıldız, who plays professionally in Italy, Freeman acquitted himself fairly well. Although the United States lost the match by a score of 2-1, Alex Freeman definitely showed some encouraging signs on his debut.

While his dad wore #86 for Green Bay, Alex wears #16 for the United States. When not playing in national team games, he plays professionally for Orlando City SC, where he wears #30.

Although his son plays a different sport, Antonio is still a proud and supportive father who wants to help guide his son the best he can.

“Of course, every dad’s dream as a former athlete is that I’m going to have my hands on him, I’m going to teach him, I’m going to show him the nuances and the tricks of the trade.”

In Antonio Freeman’s best season as a Green Bay Packer, he had over 1,400 yards, which led the league, and 14 TDs, resulting in him being both a Pro Bowler and First-Team All-Pro. Catching passes from Brett Favre, Freeman was a deadly offensive weapon and member of the 1997 Super Bowl Packers team.

Freeman retired after the 2003 season, and in 2004, his son Alex was born. Now a proud father, Antonio is watching his son begin a very promising career. Alex is on pace to potentially earn himself a spot on the United States roster for the World Cup in 2026.
