It was reported before the Green Bay Packers wild-card matchup that head coach Matt LaFleur was not coaching for his job. After the Packers blew a 21-3 halftime lead many were calling for new team CEO, Ed Policy, to move on from LaFleur.
A day after the loss, it was announced that Green Bay and LaFleur were working on a contract extension for him to remain the head coach. Multiple players on the Green Bay roster showed support for their coach following the loss.
Quarterback Jordan Love was asked if he thought Matt LaFleur should remain the head coach during his post-game press conference in Chicago. Love answered, “Yeah, I definitely think that Matt should be the head coach. I’ve got a lot of love for Matt. I think he does a great job. And that’s it.”
The relationship between head coach and quarterback is the most important on the team. Love has only had one coach and play caller during his time in the NFL. A lot of Love’s development as a player can be credited to the continuity he has had during his time in the NFL.
The 2025 season was the best of Jordan Love’s career. He finished the season with 23 touchdown passes and only six interceptions. Having one of the best play callers in the league certainly helps.
Parsons was a late addition to the Green Bay Packers, being added to the team just before the regular season started. Despite missing the entire offseason in Green Bay and playing in only 14 games, Parsons already has Matt LaFleur’s back.
While cleaning out his locker on Monday, Parsons said he reached out to his coach when he started seeing people calling for him to fired. He said to LaFleur, “When I agreed to come here, you were part of the reason why I came here. I want you to be a part of this and I love you. I think you’re a great coach.”
Parsons quickly became the Packers defense’s most important player. Without him in the lineup the defense struggled. Green Bay lost every game they played after he was lost for the season due to injury.
They didn’t just lose a great football player, but also a team leader. Getting a ringing endorsement from the player the front office traded two first round picks for can’t be overlooked.
Kraft was voted as a season-long team captain before the 2025 season. Green Bay lost another leader in the locker room for the season when Kraft went down in Week 9.
The team captain also gave praise to Matt LaFleur while speaking to media members on Monday. Kraft said, “I don’t think there’s another coach that can come in here and do it as well as he’s done it. I think Matt’s an outstanding head coach.”
Kraft is another long-term leader on the team who the Packers will look to give a contract extension to this offseason.

Despite the painful end to the season, the Green Bay Packers’ locker room has spoken clearly: they want Matt LaFleur to remain the head coach. Beyond the strong words from Love, Parsons, and Kraft, others chimed in during locker clean out.
Wide receiver Jayden Reed said, “he belongs here.” Running back Josh Jacobs, defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, and wide receiver Christian Watson all voiced confidence in their coach.
These are the core players on the roster, what they have to say about their coach holds weight. The message from the players is unmistakable. It’s recognition of continuity, development, and the culture that LaFleur has fostered even through injuries and tough finishes.
It is clear the young Packers core want their coach to stay and lead them forward in 2026.
