While speaking with reporters on Monday, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay insisted that quarterback Matthew Stafford will be "good to go" for Los Angeles' divisional-round matchup at the Chicago Bears on Jan. 18 after Stafford suffered a sprained index finger on his throwing hand in the Rams' 34-31 wild-card playoff win at the Carolina Panthers.
During the latest edition of the "Let's Go!" SiriusXM show and podcast, Stafford seemed to confirm McVay's diagnosis.
"Hand is good," Stafford told legendary broadcaster Jim Gray, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "I’m not worried about it at all. I was just throwing a ball over the middle to [wide receiver Puka Nacua] and caught somebody’s forearm. Just bent it way back. I just was looking down a little bit, like what’s this thing gonna look like when I go down there and look at it? But it was fine, a little bit stiff throughout the game, like a jammed finger. But I know by Sunday next week I’ll be feeling great."
Stafford completed 24-of-42 passes for 304 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the win over the Panthers. With under 40 seconds remaining in regulation of the contest, he connected with tight end Colby Parkinson for a go-ahead score.
While that game took place at Carolina's Bank of America Stadium, the Rams' next matchup will be at Chicago's Soldier Field. As of Tuesday morning, AccuWeather was predicting that the RealFeel temperature could be in the single digits when that contest kicks off.
"And then when it goes to cold weather, we played the Jets last year in what was, I think it was like 12 degrees at kickoff," Stafford explained, according to PFT's Mike Florio. "And you just adjust to whatever the weather allows you to do. And I think if it’s just cold with a little bit of wind, we go play. You know, I love that kind of stuff. I mean, that’s playoff football, right? Cold weather in Chicago, windy day, there’s nothing better than that in my mind, so I’m excited for it."
As of Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Rams as 3.5-point favorites over the Bears.
