It’s always been about winning the Super Bowl for the Green Bay Packers. They were considered among the contenders for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the 2024 NFL season, but they ultimately fell short of that goal.
Green Bay went 11-6 in the regular season and earned a ticket to the playoffs. However, they failed to pass their first test, falling prey in the Wild Card round to the Philadelphia Eagles, who eventually dethroned the Kansas City Chiefs and won the Super Bowl.
Entering the third year of Jordan Love as their full-time starting quarterback, the Packers continue to carry big expectations on their shoulders, not just to go above .500 or make the playoffs, but to be the last team standing come February.
Vic Tafur of The Athletic predicts that the Packers will not win more than nine games in the coming season. Here’s what he said about the Packers, along with his pick:
Green Bay Packers under 9.5 (+100)
The Packers needed a pass rusher and a No. 1 receiver this offseason, and they still do. They drafted receiver Matthew Golden in the first round but he is more of a project than an impact newcomer, and they figure to lean heavily on running back Josh Jacobs again. Which is fine. The Packers signed guard Aaron Banks for a lot of money, but he is not a sure-fire guy. Neither is new cornerback Nate Hobbs, who had trouble staying healthy with the Raiders. Could Jordan Love elevate the whole operation? Sure, but do you really want to bet on that?
The Packers won eight games in Love’s first season as the regular starter for Green Bay. The following season, the Packers went 9-8. If the trend continues, the Packers would win more than 11 games in 2025, but that certainly depends on a lot of factors within and beyond Green Bay’s control.
