Green Bay Packers fans have not had a great run when it comes to their favorite cornerbacks as of late. Back in 2023, in what was considered a very surprising move by fans, the Packers shipped starting cornerback Rasul Douglas off to the Buffalo Bills in a mid-season trade that netted them a third round pick.

In two and a half seasons with Green Bay, Douglas had 10 interceptions, including two that he returned for touchdowns. He had four interceptions in nine games after joining the Bills, but did not have any in 15 games last season.

The Douglas trade is one that Packers fans still question, but the move they made today, informing two-time Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander, is one that will likely be discussed for a long time.

The Green Bay Packers Tried to Trade Jaire Alexander to the Buffalo Bills

The decision to release Alexander was made after the two-time Pro Bowler missed exactly half of Green Bay’s 68 games over the past four seasons. In 2023 and 2024, he played in just 14 of a possible 34 games.

Alexander’s injury history, as well as his disagreement with the team over how those injuries should be treated (specifically, his torn PCL last year), led to him telling reporters that he had “nothing good to say” at the end of the season and that he was not sure if he would be coming back.

These comments led to the prevailing belief that Green Bay would either trade or release the two-time Second Team All-Pro. And while he was informed of his release on Monday, the Packers had explored trading him, specifically with their old trade partner, the Bills:

The reason why Buffalo’s trade for Alexander fell through was because the star cornerback refused to restructure his contract, which is also the reason why Green Bay released him.

Now the Bills have the chance to add him without having to give up any draft capital.
